The Mayans
The Mayans are a group of people that lived in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mesoamerica from 300 A.D. to 900 A.D. Today this land is a part of Mexico.
The Mayans were far more advanced than other tribes at the time.
They studied math and astronomy and recorded how the stars moved.
They created a calendar similar to ours today.
They also had their own system of writing and wrote on paper that they called codices.
Most of the Mayan cities were dedicated to the gods, such as Chichen Itza.
They built pyramids for the gods and also sacrificed human beings for the gods.
This civilization lasted until 900 A.D., when their land was invaded by another tribe and their culture began to decline.
